Last month, the fire headed duo of Miss Alex White and Francis White, a.k.a. White Mystery, put out a call for all natural redheads to join them at a video shoot at the Empty Bottle. Well, now we have the results of said event. Here’s the super fun video for the band’s revved up, garage rocker “Powerglove” featuring, you guessed it, a bunch of ginger kids rocking out on and off stage. Also, be sure to catch the band at Rockit Bar in Wrigleyville on Thursday, November 18. For now though, enjoy the clip:
White Mystery had a busy weekend. Not only did they call upon Chicago’s red heads to show in force at the Empty Bottle on Saturday afternoon for a video shoot and played a show later that same night, but they also stopped by music talk show, Sound Opinions, which is hosted by Chicago music critics Greg Kot and Jim DeRogatis. If you checked out the show, you know White Mystery brought the ruckus. Now, thanks to WBEZ, we can see the duo doin’ what they do best…rocking the hell out. Here’s an awesome clip of White Mystery performing the wild “Take A Walk” from their self-titled record that was released earlier this year:
Whoosh! Did anyone else think the week would just never end? Well, the end is neigh, ladies and gents, so time to slap on your Sunday best and hit the town for some sweet, sweet music.
The retro-rocking Chicago duo is shooting a music video at the Empty Bottle this Saturday, September 18, at 1 p.m.
White Mystery is urging all natural redheads to come down to the Bottle, 1035 N. Western Ave., dressed in all white.
“Punctuality is a necessity,” said singer Alex White via phone interview. Participants must show at 1 p.m. the video portion will shoot from 2 to 3 p.m.
If having your red mane immortalized in celluloid isn’t enough reason to get involved, White said video participants will be rewarded with limited edition White Mystery merchandise.
The video will be for the song “Power Glove” off its debut self-titled album.
According the the CHIRP blog, CHIRPradio.org will soon be featuring exclusive tracks from past and upcoming Coach House Sounds releases, and there will be interviews with CHS performers on the CHIRP Blog.
Not familiar with Coach House Sounds? Started in late 2009, it’s a project in which local musicians of all shapes and sizes descend upon an actual coach house in west Lakeview where the CHS team, headed up by curator Matt Baron, record exclusive performances and stream them online at coachhousesounds.com. A ton of great local acts have already been through the hallowed halls of the Coach House’s, uh, coach house including White Mystery, Radar Eyes and the Rempis/Rosaly Duo.
The CHIRP Blog post also states that this fall, a new CHS session will released every Tuesday featuring some of our favs including Rabble Rabble, Love of Everything and more. We’re super pumped for this collabo, and check out CHIRP’s blog for more info.
Chicago indie poppers The 1900s have a new full-length titled Return of the Century set for release on Tuesday, November 2, on Parasol Records.
UPDATE: We’ve received a little more information on their new record. According to a press release from Pitchperfect PR, The 1900s stepped away from big orchestration and retro antics on their new effort, in favor of more true pop elements such as catchy guitars and hooky vocal arrangements. Additionally, they were aided in the recording of Return of the Century by drummers Graeme Gibson (Disappears) and Josh Johannpeter (Mahjongg, Lazer Crystal) and producer/arranger Benjamin Balcom. Finally, check out the complete tracklisting after the jump.
The six-piece, featuring Edward Anderson, Caroline Donovan, Andra Kulans, Jeanine O’Toole and Charlie Ransford, caught the media’s attention early in their career with sleek-yet-stimulating, folk-inspired pop gems. Return of the Century will be the first full-length follow up to their 2007 release Cold & Kind.
