Monday Afternoon Quick Fix runs every Monday afternoon to showcase the best of Chicago music news, views and stories from around the interwebs and blogosphere that we might have missed.
• Windy City Rock reviewed the John Sullivan (of Loudmouth) show at the Mayne.
• Time Out Chicago profiled Margot & The Nuclear So and So’s before their show at Lincoln Hall.
• Gapers Block was at Schubas to catch The Dø and posted a sharp review stocked with some great pictures.
• AV Club chatted with Justin Townes Earle about the various neighborhoods he’s called home – including Rogers Park.

Umphrey’s McGee sound caresser Kevin Browning does a hell of a job keeping up the band’s blog The Floor. Over the years Browning has posted countless videos showing glimpses into life on the road and on stage. Below is a video he posted of the band at the North Coast Music Festival debuting a cover of the recently released Cee Lo Green hit, “Fuck You” complete with a snippet of their backstage rehearsal. For those that like what they see, Umphrey’s just announced they’ll be playing three nights at the Riviera Theatre, Dec. 29-31.
Umphrey’s McGee wants a new logo for 2011 and a contest has been created to help aid their search.
The band has teamed with Creative Allies to host each would-be designers’ entry.
All submissions are due by midnight on Sept. 17 with the winner receiving a $200 licensing fee, two VIP passes to a show on Umphrey’s fall 2010 tour and any items sold by the band printed with the winning image.
With the Pitchfork Festival still fresh in our minds and Lollapalooza knocking on the door, the first North Coast Music Festival, headlined by local improv-prog rockers Umphrey’s McGee, shouldn’t be forgotten. Kris Myers, the ferociously aggressive drummer for Umphrey’s McGee, has a softer, not often seen, jazzier side. On the rare occasions when UM is actually not on the road on tour, Myers can often be found playing gigs for free at the Webster Wine Bar. Thanks to Chad Smith we can take a look at Myers behind the kit performing some mellow grooves with the Kris Myers Quartet on July 20.
Speculation about the act lineup for the North Coast Music Festival began as early as March when it was announced the first edition of the fest would take place over labor day weekend, September 3 – 5, in Union Park – the same park Pitchfork Fest calls home.
Well, the speculation can end today as the North Coast Music Festival has revealed it’s debut artist lineup, which culls together an eclectic group of hip-hop, electronic and jam band acts.
Austin, originally from Chicago, and Bayliss, who resides in the city, got together a couple of years ago as each was going through a divorce.
On Saturday, May 25 they played Portland, Oregon’s Berbati’s Pan and keeping the Chicago vibe heavy they played a killer version of Wilco’s “Handshake Drugs” from A Ghost is Born which was taped and shared by Mark Burgin. Enjoy:
