We’re only mere weeks away from the official start of winter, so don’t forget to party while you still can. We’re talking about some great shows including The Cell Phones at The Hideout, Russian Circles at Lincoln Hall and Missing Monuments at the Empty Bottle.
Let’s rock and roll, hoochie koo.

Shonen Knife
Happy 11-11-11! Yesterday’s brief snow dusting, thankfully, was not
Snowmagdeon part deux, so put on your puffer jackets this weekend and enjoy the rock.
We’re talking about some sweet shows including Shonen Knife’s 30th anniversary tour stop at Empty Bottle, plus Mastodon at the Riv and Panda Riot at the Burlington.

Mad Decent Block Party
I believe it was rock legends (ha!) Loverboy who said, “Everybody’s working for the weekend.” Well, it looks like we’ve reached that miraculous part of our week where we can shrug off the fatigue and get ready to party.
If you thought the summer festival season ended with Lollapalooza, you’d be wrong. We’re talking about Mad Decent’s Block Party in Bucktown this Saturday as well as fabulous shows by Birth (last show!), White Mystery, Pretty Good Dance Moves and Tyler Jon Tyler, to name a few.
Let’s get to it!

Tyler Jon Tyler
And now three reasons to breeze on over to the
Empty Bottle tonight…
1. Tyler Jon Tyler have seemingly hit the right chord (pun intended!) with listeners as the young Chicago band have garnered quite a bit of buzz with their minimally melodic tunage. Maybe it’s drummer Tom Cassling’s light-hearted, surf-pop beats, bassist Nathan Jerde’s peanut buttery smooth low end, or Rebecca Flores’ steely jangle guitar work or her crisp-and-urgent vocal delivery. But maybe it’s the fact that all those pieces work in a tight-knit harmony to produce some of the sweetest, simplest garage-pop we’ve heard in a long time.

Yet another sign of summer, despite Chicago’s foray into November-like Fall temperatures, is the announcement of the Milwaukee Avenue Arts Festival’s musical lineup.
The three-day street festival kicks off Friday, July 29 and ends Sunday, July 31, along North Milwaukee between California and Kimball Avenues in Logan Square. The Milwaukee Avenue Arts Festival includes two stages chocked full of local artists, including four of our 11 Chicago Bands to Watch in 2011.
The main stage will be ruled by groovy soul rockers JC Brooks & The Uptown Sound on Friday. Brother and sister fuzz rockers White Mystery headline on Saturday and dance rock mash-up masters The Hood Internet follow suit on Sunday night.
Cole’s stage, located at the south end of the festival along Milwaukee and Belden Avenues, turns up the rock-and-roll ferocity with several local psych-rockers on Friday night including The Great Society Mind Destroyers and headliners Rabble Rabble.
More acts will likely be announced, but you can get the full festival lineup after the jump.

Hot town, summer in the city. Summer is creeping upon us, Nicki Minaj-style. But enough of the weather report, we have a lot of music to get to.
We’re talking about Urge Overkill at Bottom Lounge, Tommy Stinson at Double Door and Rambos at the Whistler.
Let’s get to it, gang.
