[caption id="attachment_30718" align="aligncenter" width="445" caption="Killer Moon"][/caption] Another week another box of really good shows to choose from. This week we're talking Killer Moon's album release party at Double Door, The Runnies' fundraiser for the homeless at Cole's, and much more! Purple monkey dishwasher...

FRIDAY

KILLER MOON Chicago psych rockers Killer Moon are celebrating the release of their new album Tunnel Vision tonight. The trio specialize in blasting some deep mellow grooves with bluesy overtones. Also along for the ride are rambunctious psych-punks Rabble Rabble, the aptly-named Creepy Band, and acid punks Plastic Crimewave Syndicate. (Audrey Leon) 8:00 p.m. Friday, 6/7. Double Door. 21+. $10.

SATURDAY

THE RUNNIES Local indie rockers The Runnies pack a powerful punch with big boppin' beats, jangly guitar, and plenty of smokey vocal flourishes courtesy of singer Mary McKane. The group are rocking out for a good cause at Cole's (which also happens to be celebrating its Birthday) alongside The Sweats, Ragged Claws, Basketball, T'Bone, Basketbal and Foz the Hook because tonight's show benefits homeless families in Humboldt Park. (Audrey Leon) 10:00 p.m. Saturday, 6/8. Cole's. 21+ FREE. SAVE THE CLOCKTOWER I’m confident in saying that Save The Clocktower’s latest, Through The Glass, works better than their 2011 debut. The record definitely leans more on sultry, danceable grooves than it’s predecessor, which while a solid effort, was a potpourri of electro-pop that found the band still searching for their footing. On Through The Glass, the band absolutely sound more confident and focused. From the near-EDM take, “Away,” to the funky number “Better Than Ever” with Company of Thieves’ Genevieve Schatz laying down a heavenly hook – you can definitely say the Save The Clocktower has got it going on. Also appearing are Dangerous Cans and Paper Thick Walls. (Richard Giraldi) 9:00 p.m. Saturday, 6/8. The Burlington. 21+. $8.

SUNDAY

JACK AND ACE Chicago duo Jack and Ace (AKA Bob Nanna and Lauren LoPiccolo) create oh so dreamy pop tunes that are delicately strummed on acoustic guitars. The pair previously teamed up on Nanna’s project The City on Film, and now they are folkin' it up with awesomely-named tracks like "I'm Sorry That You Are The Black Death." Also appearing tonight are Dustin Currier, Mike Winegardner (of On Again Off Again and Santah), and Cory Grimm. (Audrey Leon) 7:00 p.m. Sunday, 6/9. Quenchers. 21+. $5. By   \  comments
[caption id="attachment_29136" align="aligncenter" width="445" caption="poster by something of a dandy"][/caption] Man, when did Chicago become Seattle? It's been cold and rainy all week. The good new is that it's Friday, so now you can get out there and see some music without the threat of work in the morning looming over your head. And there's plenty of good music to see like Lying Delilah at Tonic Room, Bailiff at Beat Kitchen, Digital Leather at the Burlington and more! Dig it...

FRIDAY

LYING DELILAH The music that emanates from Lying Delilah's 2011 album Return to the Love is rich, soulful and filled with plenty of dramatic style. The Bluesy pop group doesn't specialize in particularly dark music, but it feels as though it was created especially for the stage with singer Jodi Rosenthal's expressive vocals leading us on a groovy journey to self-discovery. Also appearing tonight are funky blues rockers Southwest Highway and singer-songwriter Crook County. (Audrey Leon) 8:30 p.m. Friday, 10/19. Tonic Room. 21+ $8. NEW CANYONS Tired of all those blasted guitars? Then you might be in the mood for New Canyons. This local duo are solidly founded in the synthesizer camp with their often dreamy melodies and retro-shoegaze feel that. That's not to say their approach isn't modern, but damn if I don't head some Jesus And Mary Chain and Depeche Mode in their tunes. While their BLVD LP is due out sometime this fall, the two track currently up on their Bandcamp page is definitely recommended listening. The show they're playing also happens to be Blissfest 2012, and is chock full of similar leaning acts such as BLISSFEST 2012 with Lovesliescrushing, Airiel, Darkred and Golden Gardens. (Richard Giraldi) 8:00 p.m. Friday, 10/19. Subterranean. 21+. $12.

SATURDAY

BAILIFF Chicago rockers Bailiff have had their share of growing pains over the last couple of years, but the band has come into its own with a sound that its rooted in brooding atmospherics and effortlessly blended with soulful pop hooks. Joining the band are St. Louis, by way of Chicago, alt-rockers Sleepy Kitty and local jangly, garage rockers The Laureates. (Audrey Leon) 9:00 p.m. Saturday, 10/20. Beat Kitchen. 21+ $10.

SUNDAY

DIGITAL LEATHER The Jay Reatard connections abound tonight. First with Omaha's Digital Leather. Led by Shawn Foree, the band's sound trends toward new wave - taking a good and honest love of synths to a whole new level - on record and searing punk while on stage. Digital Leather's split personalities means the music never gets old and certainly never gets boring. Also appearing are garagey psych rockers Destruction Unit, who once counted Jay Reatard as a member, Hozac-approved rockers Puffy Areolas, and garage poppers The Runnies. (Audrey Leon) 9:00 p.m. Sunday, 10/21. The Burlington. 21+ $7 By   \  comments
No one is more excited about the weekend than us at Loud Loop. And this weekend is jam-packed with activities including yet another festival - the Brilliant Corners of Popular Amusement at the Riverfront Theater. However, if a music and comedy combination festival isn't what you had in mind, we've got some great suggestions on how to make your weekend 210 percent more fun with shows at the Hideout, The Empty Bottle and Subterranean. Ya dig? Up and Atom!

FRIDAY

STEPHEN PAUL SMOKER Local psych rockers Stephen Paul Smoker are set to infiltrate the Hideout with their own brand of 60's inspired psychedelica that oozes with darkened, vibrating rhythms and spacey vocal harmonies. Also appearing are Afro-Colombian roots rockers M.A.K.U SoundSystem. (Audrey Leon) 10:00 p.m. Friday, 9/21. The Hideout. 21+ $12. ACORN BCORN Acorn Bcorn are a sisterly duo from Tucson who are more than just a pretty damn clever name. These girls play minimal rock 'n' roll - literally with just a guitar, bass and a scaled down drum set of just a bass drum, snare and a couple tamborines. But their songs, specifically from their latest three-track EP, Ladies in Waiting, simmers with raw, desert-fueled angst and chippy clean guitars. When it all comes together, they're actually quite ferocious. And opening are a couple of site favorites: self-appointed "kindercunts" Swimsuit Addition and indie-pupsters The Peekaboos. (Richard Giraldi) 9:00 p.m. Friday, 9/21. The Crown Tap Room. 21+. $5.

SATURDAY

SLOAN Power pop legends Sloan return to Subterranean tonight on their "Twice Removed" tour. The band is celebrating the album, originally released in 1994, with a full vinyl reissue and by performing Twice Removed's sick, melodious rhythms in their entiriety. Color me Canadian, eh? (Audrey Leon) 8:00 p.m. Saturday, 9/22. Subterranean. 17+ $15.

SUNDAY

OUTER MINDS The Empty Bottle will host an AIDS Run and Walk Benefit for Chicago House and Social Service Agency on Sunday night. To sweeten the deal, the venue asked local psych poppers Outer Minds to help audience members shake their money makers with the band's hypnotically melodic grooves. Also appearing are fuzzy indie rockers The Runnies, and metal enthusiasts Wizard Castle. Rock for a good cause, y'all! (Audrey Leon) 9:00 p.m. Saturday, 9/23. Empty Bottle. 21+ $10. By   \  comments

Unless you've been living under a rock, you know that this Saturday, April 21, is the fourth annual Record Store Day. Like the past three years, record stores around the country are offering exclusive releases, great deals, free goodies and even in-store performances for Saturday's celebration of independently owned record stores. The event is even better if you live in Chicago because there are many great record stores strewn across the city, but it's hard to keep count of which one is doing what. Therefore, once again, we've done the dirty work for you in this handy guide to record store day in Chicago in which we break down which stores have what releases and even which bands you might find playing.
