And now three reasons to shake off that Superbowl hangover and get your pizza butt on over to the Empty Bottle this evening…
1. We try to stay ahead of the curve most of the time, which is why Radar Eyes appeared on our 11 Chicago Bands To Watch in 2011 list. That’s not to say they didn’t have a grand 2011 as they released a 7″, played HoZac’s Blackout Fest, opened for Wild Flag and more. But 2012 is shaping up for be the breakout year for the melodic static-poppers seeing how tonight finds them finally releasing their debut full-length on Chicago’s HoZac Records. And based on the few jams we’ve heard scattered around the indie blogopshere, the record’s release is definitely an occasion worth celebrating. LISTEN: “I Am”

Summer Girlfriends
Another day, another box of stolen pens. Like Bill Murray, we all survived Groundhog’s Day, so let’s get out on the town and live it up. We’re talking great shows at The Burlington, Cole’s and Panchos (or Township, if you like).
Looks like at least six more weeks of rock to me.

Hay Perro
1. Hay Perro play the kind of old school metal slash hard rock that offers absolutely no hidden agendas. Their chugging, Motorhead-esque riffage, aggressive vocals and wailing Thin Lizzy leads would go just right with downing cheap beers and shots of Jameson. LISTEN: “No Visons”

Lasers and Fast and Shit
TGIF, people! Get out there and forget this work week ever happened by having a little fun. We’re talking great shows at the Double Door, Empty Bottle and Cole’s.
Let’s get with “it” before they change what “it” was.

And now three reasons to boogie on over to the Empty Bottle tonight…
1. Holy crap, it’s Tortoise. Yes, the Chicago stalwarts return for a Tuesday night hometown treat at the Bottle tonight (one of their only five tour dates planned through this summer). Tortoise are not only one of the most important American post-rock slash experimental rock bands, but they may as well be one of the most important Chicago bands ever just in terms of their influence and activity in the local scene. Not only has the much band performed in other windy city acts (The Sea & Cake, Eleventh Dream Day), but they’ve become some of the city’s top producers as multi-instrumentalist John McEntire produced the most recent Broken Social Scene record and will work with jazz keyboardist Marco Benevento in 2012. While Tortoise’s 2009 record, Beacons Of Ancestorship, found them crafting accessible textures with an intriguing use of synthesizers that actually come across as quite rockin’, lest we forget all of their classic records (featuring some fantastic mallet work) like the 1996 epic Millions Now Living Will Never Die and 98′s TNT. Tonight’s not just poised to be an excellent rock show, but also a learning experience from soem of the top musicians Chicago has to offer. LISTEN: “High Class Slim Came Floatin’ In”

And now three reasons to shake your tail feather on over to the Bottle this balmy Chicago evening…
1. There’s nothing wrong with tight and polished pop-rock. Case in point is Chicago’s Wally Dogger, who do that quite well. The guitars are crisp, the drums and bass are just punchy enough without intruding on the vocals that balance between melodic sweetness and a Pavement-like sarcastic angst. At times, they indulge in adolescent wordplay (“Tramp Stamp”), but their tongue in cheek delivery makes it work. LISTEN: “Julie”
2. Local duo Pinto & the Bean are difficult to pin down musically. Comprised of Paul Taneja and Ivan Sosa, their debut, The Waiting Place, is a bit all over the place…but in a good way. They shoot for a electro-power-pop territory that touches on new wave and also still keeping with their indie rock roots on acoustic-lead ballads (“Wake Up”). LISTEN: “Let’s Make Some Noise”
