Chicago dreamy indie rockers Color Radio are streaming their new album, Architects, for free on their website.
The 12-track album is an engaging listen from the warm swirl of the keyboard-driven, Kid A-esque “Vespers” to the dripping reverbed guitars of the quixotic take, “Sharks [in a sequence]“. Listen to Architects below:
Architects officially release date of June 14, but you can pre-order the record at Color Radio’s Bandcamp page right now. Finally, be sure to check out the band when they rock The Whistler on Monday, June 13.
I remember the days back when you couldn’t hear a record until the day it was released.
If you were lucky enough to work at a record store, maybe you got a promo a few days before. There was nothing like telling your buddies that the new Dinosaur Jr. record has not one but two slow countrified tunes on it, in a row no less.
The days of in-the-know are long gone thanks to the internet. For instance, Indian’s new record Guiltless is coming out on Relapse on Tuesday, April 12, but I’m sitting here listening to it thanks the ridiculously good folks at Stereogum. We’ve been waiting a while for a new Indian record and sounds like they are not going to disappoint.
The record, Feral Songs For The Epic Decline, somehow sounds both totally surprising and not unexpected all at once.
Lamont’s propensity to explore many genres makes the odd Middle East-meets-Americana vibe of “Feral Songs” totally sensible. Don’t believe me? Well, check it out for yourself.
Or wait for At A Loss to release it on Tuesday, January 25, if you are so inclined.
Well, today the band unleashed the album’s first track, “Weekend”, onto an unsuspecting interwebs.
On first listen, “Weekend” definitely proves the band has strayed from the lo-fi sounds of their debut in favor of some very sleek production. The song also features gooey sweet fuzz-guitar riffage. While the album drops in January, maybe they should have saved it for summer as “Weekend” is definitely beach day-ready. Listen to the track below:
Also, be sure to catch the band, and most probably “Weekend”, live this Friday, November 5, at Lincoln Hall. Tickets are available right now at Lincolnhallchicago.com for $12.
Chicago experimental outfit Mako Sica are streaming their first full length album titled Dark Horizon at La-soc.com. The record is currently scheduled for a February release.
Dark Horizon was recorded and mixed by Todd Rittman (D. Rider, US Maple, Singer) and Jim Zespy (Magnolia Eclectric Co.) at Logan Hardware.
