Now that winter is finally upon us, it is more than appropriate to talk about spring break. Totally. Several Chicago-based rockers, rappers - and everything in between - have been spotted on the list of this year's South by Southwest lineup, which will take place in Austin, Texas, on March 12-17, 2013. JC Brooks and the Uptown Sound, The Congregation, The Hood Internet, Empires and The Waco Brothers are some of the bands that will be on hand to give Austin denizens and out of state tourists alike a reason to get down in the streets. Grab the complete list artists after the jump. If hot national acts are what floats your festival boat, SXSW 2013 will have plenty of them. This year's list includes a stunning array of 90s artists including Third Eye Blind, Alien Ant Farm, The Crystal Method and Man or Astro-man? in addition to popular modern rockers Thee Oh Sees, Wavves and Joy Formidable. • • Greg Kot at the Tribune announced that Lollapalooza ticket prices will rise this year after the festival renegotiated its tax deal with the city. The new agreement will raise over $4 million in city and county revenue and keep the annual music fest at Grant Park until 2021.
• • The Sun-Times has the details on Mayor Emanuel's plan to charge $25 per seat at Taste of Chicago concerts held at Petrillo Music Shell.
• • Soul rockers JC Brooks and the Uptown Sound provided Gapers Block with a SXSW tour diary filled with their Austin adventures. Local jazzy hip-hop outfit Jip-Jop contributed as well.
• • Speaking of SXSW, in an effort to see who still cares what he has to say, Billy Corgan called today's mainstream artists "prostitutes" and "strippers." He also said this gem: "I was part of a generation that changed the world – and it was taken over by poseurs." The more you know.
• • Time Out Chicago has photos from Company of Thieves big hometown show at the Metro two Fridays ago.

• • The Reader's Deanna Isaacs sheds some light on the city's move to revamp the Chicago Cultural Plan. According to the website started by the Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events, the plan will help "identify opportunities for arts and cultural growth for the city." Sounds pretty damn important. The next public hearing on the matter is this Tuesday, February 21, at the National Museum of Mexican Art in Pilsen from 6-8 p.m.
• • Gapers Block head honcho Andrew Huff gives us the low down on all the Chicago groups (and those other Midwesterners) playing this year's South By Southwest festival in Austin.
• • Despite some bumps in her live show, Sharon Van Etten left The Chicago Tribune's Bob Gendron enraptured.
• • Time Out Chicago checked out Netherfriends' recent stop at The Empty Bottle and have some photos to prove it.
• • Dave Grohl's controversial Grammy speech, which scolded other musicians for lacking the "human element," inspired Fox Chicago to reach out to local singer Jennifer Hall, Double Door co-owner Sean Mulroney, sound engineer Jay O'Rourke and entertainment lawyer Peter Strand to discuss what it takes to make it in the business today.

Winter, eat your heart out. Austin's annual South by Southwest music festival has been slowly releasing its list of bands traveling to the Lone Star state this Spring and, yes, Chicago is represented. On tap to play the 2012 edition are sunny pop rockers Gold Motel, dancehall DJ Chrissy Murderbot, acoustic folker Musikanto, lo-fi ambient poppers U.S. Girls, and Chicago - by way of Philadelphia - dream poppers Mahogany. Built to Spill, Grace Potter and the Nocturnals, Talib Kweli, and Thee Oh Sees will also play SXSW this year. And while Broken Social Scene is headed toward hiatus-land, its members will be well-represented with Metric, Stars and Zeus scheduled to appear. It’s that time of year again. The first rumblings from the annual industry gathering known as South by Southwest were heard today when it released a preliminary list of performers slated for next year’s edition. Buried under a score of bands from the UK, Brooklyn, Los Angeles and New Zealand (?!) were Chicago’s own psych-rockers Light Pollution. Light Pollution released its dreamy debut album Apparitions earlier this summer. We can only hope that this list isn’t a sign of things to come with Chicago being under-represented at South by Southwest 2011. As winter draws near, this can only mean one thing: Spring Break staple South by Southwest festival is on the horizon. The annual central Texas music festival has released a preliminary list of over 200 bands from all over the globe including four from Chicago for it's 2010 edition. Gaining a coveted spot on a SXSW stage are the Chicago hip-hop group Kidz in the Hall, recent Chicago Public Library Sound Off contest winner Psalm One, alt-country outfit the Waco Brothers and video game enthusiasts I Fight Dragons. South By Southwest 2010 music festival will take place in Austin, Texas, from Wed., March 17, to Sun., March 21. Motown legend Smokey Robinson is slated to be the keynote speaker at the music conference on Thurs., March 18. More musical acts will be announced as the festival draws near.
