Whoa, dude. It’s the weekend. Better get your groovy self out to some shows! There’s plenty o’options including the mind-altering two days at the Hideout, better known as PSYCH FEST II, Pilsen’s swinging duo Ornery Little Darlings at the Empty Bottle, singer-songwriter Sad Brad Smith at Schubas and so much more.
Let’s get to it, shall we?

Three this-is-not-a-subtle-shout-out-to-my-buddy-Kendra-but-what-are-you-going-to-do-about-it reasons to not watch the Bears game tonight and instead head over to the
Bottle…
1. Sadhu Sadhu! I love these guys. It started way back when when I first heard their
Live At The Hideout tape, and they’ve done nothing to lessen my love. Great psychedelic rock played by great psychedelic people. Dig.

When it rains it pours, and right now it is pouring for Chicago psych-rockers Great Society Mind Destroyers. I mean this in the best possible way.
The band, consisting of Brett Borden, Andrew Kettering, Will Sauceda, Jim Lechocki, and Nick Kaminsky, have just started recording a full length with Phil Karnats of Secret Machines, and so far it sounds like things are going swimmingly well.

1. Chicago’s
Sadhu Sadhu have been on my radar for quite some time now. I’ve championed them since I first heard their “Live At The Hideout” CD-R. I might have had some
swell things to say about it, too. Well guess what? I’ve never actually seen them live. Shhh. I know. Tonight’s the night, so if you dig trippy rocking psychedelic shit, you should join me. I’ll be the guy with graying hair coughing in the back.

Three sometimes-your-friends-have-kids-and-quit-their-jobs-and-up-and-move-to-the-suburbs-and-although-you’re-bummed-you-still-can-be-happy-for-them-you-selfish-jerk reasons to hike on up to Schubas tonight…
1. There are side-project and then there are side-projects. Thee Silver Mt. Zion Memorial Orchestra are the latter. Like five or so full-length albums the latter. Coming from the belly of Godspeed You Black Emperor, the sort of ever evolving Orchestra has been as prolific as any non-side-project full-time band, releasing double album after double album of sprawling yet remarkably easily accessible rock epics. You probably don’t need me to tell you this, but here’s my stamp of approval none the less.

As cool a ‘hood Logan Square is, it still lacked in the uber-hip record store department – until now.
West Logan Square meet Saki, your new record store slash art gallery slash all around awesome place from the peeps over at Carrot Top Distribution.
Located at 3716 W. Fullerton Avenue, Saki’s website boasts the tag line, “music. art. books. zines. people.”, which means this place isn’t just your ordinary cramped and dusty vinyl shop. Saki will carry not only vinyl but magazines, books and even cool collectibles!
According to WindyCityRock.net, Saki will also be a venue for local groups to perform, and this weekend’s grand opening event lineup rivals Chicago street festival lineups!

1. Chicago’s own
Sadhu Sadhu are kind of one my favorite psych rock bands out there. No foolin’. Lest you think I’m foolin’, may I encourage you to read or, most likely, re-read
my review of their “Live At The Hideout” release. Done yet? Good. Still no studio album so live is the only which way to hear them. You see what I’m driving at.
