On October 27 Pelican will release its fourth studio album What We All Come To Need on the Southern Lord label. To promote the release the loud, post-rock quartet will play an in-store performance at 7:00pm October 16 at Reckless Records, 1532 N. Milwaukee Ave.
Reckless Records will play host to a free in-store performance from local post-rock outfit Tortoise this Sunday, October 4, at 5 p.m.
The group is promoting it’s latest album, the 2009 release Beacons of Ancestorship.
No doubt this will be highly prized event to attend, so it goes (almost) without saying – get there early if you want to get inside.
Also be sure to check out our interview with percussionist John Herndon discussing the album and what lies ahead for the band.

So there’s still a few hours left in the day for you to make it to your nearest independent record store and pick up some kick-ass goodies.
Here is a list to Record Store Day 2009 special releases straight from the official web site and you can probably still find some schwag if you hurry!
I hit up both Reckless Records on Broadway and Dave’s Records on Clark here in Chicago and picked up quite a few items including both Sonic Youth 7″ splits, a Flaming Lips/Black Keys 7″ split, a Jane’s Addiction “Mountain Song” 7″, and the new LP Cryptomnesia from El Grupo Nuevo De Omar Rodriguez Lopez of Mars Volta. And you’ll be seeing a review of Cryptomnesia up very shortly.
So be sure to share your Record Store Day 2009 stories. Let us know how you did by commenting! Hopefully we’ll get some more content including reviews of select record store day items up shortly. Stay tuned!
