It’s Superbowl weekend, but there are still a bunch of awesome shows happening this weekend! But before we get to the shows, a reminder that Loud Loop Radio will be back on the air tomorrow, Saturday, February 6, at 3 p.m. until 5 p.m. on Radio DePaul.
As the number of computer-run radio stations such as JACK-FM increases and layoffs continue at major Chicago radio stations like WBEZ, the Chicago Independent Radio Project aims to launch a brand new Chicago-focused community station this fall.
The Chicago Independent Radio Project, or CHIRP, formed in the summer of 2007 when the Loyola University-based Chicago independent radio station WLUW began phasing out non-students participants. Loyola instead wanted to use the station as a student-focused learning lab, and Shawn Campbell, former WLUW program director and current CHIRP president, thought a new community station was needed to use the nearly 100 non-student volunteers who were now shut out of WLUW.
Don’t forget to tune into Radio DePaul on Saturday, Oct. 3, 2009, from 3 p.m. until 5 p.m. for episode #2 of Loud Loop Radio. This week Loud Loop Press editors Richard Giraldi and Andy Kahn once again grace the internet airwaves for smart musical discussion.
This week features album reviews for Yo La Tengo, Russian Circles and My Were They. Additionally, “Best of Summer 2009,” discussion is on tap, which rates the best albums and summer Chicago concerts from this past summer. Listeners are encouraged to call in and share their own favorite picks. Finally, the show will highlight the top weekend musical diversions as well as preview what’s on tap for LoudLoopPress.com next week.
Finally, if you missed Loud Loop Radio Episode #1, here’s the entire show, edited together magnificently by our managing editor Josh Reed, for your streaming/downloading pleasure:
Editor’s Note: In the Loud Loop Radio Episode #1, we refer to the Built To Spill track as “There Is No Enemy.” CORRECTION: The track is called “Things Fall Apart” and the album is titled There Is No Enemy.
On Saturday, September 26, 2009, at 1 p.m. CST, Loud Loop Press will take over the Internet airwaves by teaming with DePaul University’s web radio station, Radio DePaul, for Loud Loop Radio.
