Lollapalooza is back with a line-up that’s full of up-and-coming local acts, legitimate buzz bands, arena rockers and a few head scratchers. So, we here at Loud Loop figured you might need some help deciding which bands to check out and which to avoid. And of course you know the headliners, so we won’t waste your time on those. Instead, these are our picks for can’t-miss acts those other eight hours this Friday, Saturday and Sunday…

And you thought music festival previews were done for the summer, didn’t you? Not by a long shot seeing how tomorrow begins the inaugural North Coast Music Festival in Chicago’s Union Park. This festival, unlike Pitchfork Music Festival or Lollapalooza, focuses on music genres that are usually put on the backburner such as jam band, Hip-Hop and electronic music. Did we mention the number of awesome local acts that will also be rockin’ out? (Like the always awesome Loyal Divide?)
Anyway, as per usual, we’re not going to sit here and talk every band on the lineup, and we don’t think you’d be too into that either. Therefore, we’re highlighting our picks for the can’t miss acts at the festival. So, let’s get to it, eh? This is your Loud Loop Press North Coast Music Festival Preview…

Lollapalooza is back and bigger than ever with an eclectic set of headliners that ranges from the post-Madonna, dancehall pop of Lady Gaga to reunited Seattle grungers Soundgarden to the unbridled anthems of indie rock saviors Arcade Fire. But of course, you probably are familiar with those groups. So, we decided on keying you in on some of our favorites who play the other eight hours on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Get ready, Chicago. Here’s your Loud Loop Press Lollapalooza 2010 preview…

LoudLoopPress.com was one of the blogs chosen for Lollapalooza’s Best Local Music Blog contest to write previews for the fest’s 2010 acts, which will also appear on Lollapalooza.com. In our second of three band previews, contributor Andy Kondrat dishes on The New Pornographers.
It pretty much goes without saying that whenever some band gets described as a “supergroup,” your immediate, and appropriate, reaction, is to roll your eyes and brace yourself for the worst. Given that fact, even though The New Pornographers feature A.C. Newman and Neko Case of solo acclaim, Dan Bejar of Destroyer and Swan Lake, and members of other Canadian rock groups such as Limblifter, perhaps we’re better off focusing not on the band’s pedigree, but on the consistently great music The New Pornographers create as one of the best rock bands together today.

Tomorrow begins another Pitchfork Music Festival at Chicago’s Union Park. From Saturday’s LCD Soundsystem disco-punk dance party to Sunday night’s Pavement reunion, this one should be pretty freakin’ amazing. But of course you know all about those guys, and there’s so much more music to be seen before 8:30pm that we decided to focus on our favorite mid-tier acts, and perhaps through our clever turns of phrase, guide you in their direction as well. This is your Loud Loop Press Pitchfork Fest 2010 Preview.

Three reasons to kiss that blarney stone and head on over to Lincoln Hall this evening…
1. As many of our fair Chicago acts have made the journey on down to Austin for SXSW, there’s been a bit of an influx of groups from across the pond hitting the windy city clubs recently. Yesterday the Empty Bottle had some French acts play, and today a few acts from the U.K. will descend upon Lincoln Hall. One such act is Field Music who blend good ol’ fashion rock and roll with lush melodies and playful indie antics. Their track, “Each Time Is A New Time” which can be heard on their Myspace page, is a perfect soundtrack for this beautiful St. Patty’s day.
