Yesterday, the band announced a four-song, 12″ vinyl, titled A Million Miles (From Where We Were Last), will be available on Saturday, November 13. Sans record player? Don’t worry! According to the art rock duo’s Facebook page, the release will also be available digitally. Also, that pic in the upper left hand corner? That’s the sweet album art for A Million Miles (From Where We Were Last).
There’s a new end of summer slash Labor Day weekend event heading to South Belmont Harbor in two weeks.
UPDATE:The Metro confirmed last week the additional bands set to perform at the event. The Scotland Yard Gospel Choir will perform on Saturday, September 4, and Purple Apple will close things out on Monday, September 6.
The Joyous Outdoor Event, or J.O.E. for short, is a Labor Day festival for all ages and hits South Belmont Harbor this September 2 – 6 and includes the tag line “Fun doesn’t have to be escapist. Culture doesn’t have to be tedious.” J.O.E. is an inaugural outdoor festival of performance, live music and art, but for now, we’ll focus on the music.
How about some new material from Chicago art-rock duo My Gold Mask? Your wish is our command.
Now available for your listening pleasure (to the left), and for a limited time, is a rough mix of a new My Gold mask track titled, “Bobbi”. The track is a little more uplifting than what the band gave us on their 2010 release from earlier this year A Thousand Voices.
The track features some big vocal hooks from singer Gretta Rochelle as well as tight-fitting guitar work from Jack Armondo.
According to the band, the track still needs to be mastered but will be released on vinyl this November.
Well, the wait for the cover collaboration to surface didn’t take long. It seems La Scala, just in time for the release of their new LP on July 30, and My Gold Mask singer/percussionist Gretta Rochelle have covered the song “Tu Farai”, which is a 1960’s Italian pop song originally performed by Italian pop singer Mina. La Scala did all the music for the track, while Rochelle sings entirely in Italian. This isn’t the first time La Scala and My Gold Mask have worked together, as La Scala front man Balthazar de Ley, had a hand in recording all of My Gold Mask’s previous releases.
Anyway, here now for your listening (or downloading) pleasure is La Scala and Gretta Rochella’s version of “Tu Farai”:
One of the break out artists at this year’s Pitchfork Music Festival was Swedish pop sensation Robyn. Before Pitchfork Fest attendees took notice, Chicago art-rock duo My Gold Mask covered her tune “Dancing On My Own” at the Hideout late last month. Well, now we’ve got a sweet John LeSanche-edited video of their stripped down cover of the dancehall-ready track. Additionally, guitarist Jack Armondo stated via e-mail that the band is currently recording new material and a single should be out by September. Also, singer and percussionist Gretta Rochelle sang on another cover song, which will be a collaboration with La Scala that will see the light of day very soon. Anyway, check out the video below:
It’s no secret that we’re big fans of supporters of Chicago art rock duo My Gold Mask here at Loud Loop Press. This spring the band has been on the road in support of their latest EP, A Thousand Voices. Well, here’s an excellent little video, shot and edited by Elizabeth Kerin, of the band performing their song “Your Coo Ka Choo”, from their 2009 self-titled debut, at Public Assembly in Brooklyn, NY in late April. Careful not to tip anyone off that the band are Chicago spies sent to infiltrate the hipsters’ fortress of solitude a.k.a. Brooklyn. Be sure to catch the band in Chicago on Saturday, June 26, at the Hideout. Enjoy the clip:
