One highlight of Lollapalooza was the newly reunited Death From Above 1979. The hard rocking noise enthusiasts pack a powerful punch for a simple drum and bass – and some times keyboard – duo. DFA1979 singer Sebastein Granger was in a good mood, cracking jokes about the mud and giving shout outs to the Metro and Empty Bottle. During “Romantic Rights” Granger left his drum kit to dance and scream behind one of Lollapalooza’s fantastic sign language interpreters, who went along with it. Lollapalooza’s annual contest for electronica artists and DJ’s dubbed the “Lolla Remix Throwdown” returns this year to offer composers a chance to perform at Perry’s Stage during the festival this August, among many other prizes such as cash and studio time.

Contestants have until May 22 to submit an original composition or remix for the throwdown that will judged by a panel of music writers, DJs and local booking agents in addition to online voters. Both contestants and voters alike will be entered to win a pair of tickets to this year’s Lollapalooza.

The top 50 contestants that advance to the semi-finals (held June 6-July 1) will have the chance to remix tracks by Lolla artists The Glitch Mob, Midnight Conspiracy and Lady D. The top four will perform at a live battle held Saturday, June 30 at the Double Door.
