Holy smokes! This might be the best weekend for live music in Chicago outside of Pitchfork Fest and Lollapalooza weekends. So many shows. So little time. Read on for previews of Evan Dando at the Double Door, Tortoise at Lincoln Hall, Scott Lucas and the Married Men at Schubas and that’s just scratching the surface.

But before we get to the shows, a reminder that Loud Loop Radio will be back on the air tomorrow, Saturday, February 20, at 3 p.m. until 5 p.m. on Radio DePaul.

Celestial Navigations: The Short Films of Al Jarnow,” the first film compilation by Numero Group, will make its Chicago debut this Friday and Saturday night at the Gene Siskel Film Center.

For producer Michael Slaboch, seeing this labor of love come to fruition has been a long time coming and so far has garnered two sold out screenings at the 92Y Tribeca in Manhattan.

“The project took four years from first thought to the screening in New York City last weekend,” said Slaboch.  “The first two and a half years it sat on the dry erase board.”

American Artifact: The Rise of American Rock Poster Art, a documentary that traces the history of the DIY poster art movement from the 1950s to the present day, will premiere at the Gene Siskel Film Center on Saturday, Jan. 30, at 8 p.m.

Last week had a post with a rundown of what local artists are doing to help out the people of Haiti as they recover from the devastating earthquake that ransacked the poor island country.
