High On Fire
Feels like summer! So because of this fact, not a lot of chit-chat today. Need to get our and enjoy this weather.
This weekend, we preview a bunch of metal shows, a melodic indie pop group and a local country outfit because that’s how we roll. Lets get to it, shall we?

CAVE is going to be busy this summer. The Chicago psych-rockers will drop their latest effort, Pure Moods, on May 18 via Drag City.
Then beginning on June 4 with a show at the Hideout, the band will hit the road for a tour that takes them all the way up into the great white north. The two-month trek will culminate with their appearance at Pitchfork Festival 2010 on Sunday, June 18. If you can’t make those two Chi-town stops, the you can also see CAVE at the Empty Bottle with New Orleans’ Quintron and Miss Pussycat on June 25.
You can find CAVE’s complete tour itinerary after the jump.

Three is-this-guy-really-telling-us-to-be-inside-on-this-beautiful-night reasons to leave your jackets at home and hit up the
Empty Bottle tonight…
1. Chicago’s very own
The Kickback are celebrating their
Spat! Records release,
Great Self Love, and I’m sure would love to see you there. Their songs are a pleasant mash-up of Zombie’s style riffs with a little of the old indie rock the kids flock to. Pop music on a rare warm April 1st sounds oh so nice, doesn’t it?

Three wait-are-those-70′s,-like-high-70′s,-I see-coming-midweek reasons to find your sunglasses and stumble on over to the Empty Bottle tonight…
1. Cincinnatti’s The Lions Rampant play what one might call garage rock. I know what you’re thinking. I’m not even going to bother to tell you what it is, though. The thing is The Lions Rampant don’t just chug out sloppy riffs drenched in fuzz (not that there’s anything wrong with that). They write pop songs and then drench them in fuzz and swampy keyboards and that my friends is a lovely combination. You might even hear something you and your extra special lady friend can slow dance to. Awwww. Just don’t do it in front of me.

Three last minute reasons to saunter your way on over to the Empty Bottle tonight…
1. Chicago’s punchy indie rockers Pet Lions need a warm homecoming tonight because, according to Facebook page, their tour van (a.k.a. Catface) broke down on the back to Chicago from Austin. Even though the main draw is that these guys put on a damn fine show and play some catchy-as-hell tuneage, maybe you should slip them a buck or two once their set is over to earn your good samaritan of the day award or something.

Let’s get to it, shall we?

Three no jacket needed reasons to head on over to the Empty Bottle tonight…
1. Though their name doesn’t imply it, PoundCake is really heavy. This local progressive-rock outfit started out as three drummers simply playing some covers for cash. Well, it’s apparent they picked up other instruments rather quickly because they offer some pretty complex riffage and intriguing time signatures. Though they have plenty of originals now, they haven’t completely abandoned the cover tunes game. Check out their sweet takes on Tom Petty’s “You Wreck Me” and the Flaming Lips’ “Bad Days” at their Myspace page.
