Whew! Anybody else have a long week? Well, good news, the weekend has finally arrived. Summer is slowly fading away, so better get out there and enjoy the warmth while you still can. But if the heat and outdoors aren’t for you, no worries, there are plenty of great reasons to stay inside…inside one of this city’s many amazing music clubs!
Whew. Congrats, Chicago. You survived Lollapalooza 2010. Until next year or some such. Anyway, if you didn’t make it down to Grant Park last weekend, relive the madness in our complete wrap up of Lollapalooza’s Friday, Saturday and Sunday!
And just because the big two summer fests are done does not mean that there’s a shortage of shows this weekend in Chicago. This weekend we highlight Boris and Russian Circles at the Metro, Rabble Rabble at the Empty Bottle and more!
Lollapalooza is back and bigger than ever with an eclectic set of headliners that ranges from the post-Madonna, dancehall pop of Lady Gaga to reunited Seattle grungers Soundgarden to the unbridled anthems of indie rock saviors Arcade Fire. But of course, you probably are familiar with those groups. So, we decided on keying you in on some of our favorites who play the other eight hours on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Get ready, Chicago. Here’s your Loud Loop Press Lollapalooza 2010 preview…
Covers are always fun, especially when the band that performs them changes the original just enough as to make it their own.
Chicago indie rockers DICK WOLF! use their their technical, guitar-savvy with finesse in this live cover of the Talking Heads deep cut “This Must Be the Place (Naive Melody)”, which the band rocked during their live session on WNUR 89.3 last weekend. Their frantic axe-antics are abound, but the song still maintains the original’s whirling groove.
Also, you can check out three originals from DICK WOLF! that were played during the radio session at Dickwolf.bandcamp.com. Be sure and catch the band play a free show at the Double Door on Thursday, August 26!
Ahoy there, punk rockers! Your favorite fall music festival, aka Riot Fest, returns to Chicago for it’s sixth year this October 6 – 11 with a lineup full of your old-school mosh pit favorites.
Additionally, a benefit show for Chicago Coalition for the Homeless from those behind The Busted at Oz Chicago punk compilation will go down at the Double Door on Wednesday, October 6, featuring the early Naked Raygun lineup, The Effigies and original lineups from The Subverts, Steve Bjorklund, Da!, Silver Abuse and Toothpaste.
And now three reasons to throw on your poncho and dance your way on over to the Double Door this evening for quite the eclectic lineup…
1. It’s Tuesday. The work week is still on its upside. Thanks heavens the Double Door’s No Dough Rock Show is here to rescue us from the monotony so close to the biggest Chicago fest of the summer. Tonight, Chicago’s Dr. Killbot bring their silly sounds, and their self-appointed moniker “king of Electro-Nerd-Punk”, to the stage tonight. Accordions and banjos abound, Dr. Killbot fit somewhere nicely between the sexual innuendo comedy of the Bloodhound Gang and the weird, auditory expositions of The Residents. Get ready for some comic-book rock from the dark recesses of the left side of your brain.
The difference between Lollapalooza’s after parties and North Coast’s is that you can’t simply skip the big event and hit up the clubs later on. In order to purchase tickets to the North Coast Music Fest after parties, you must purchase an equal or greater amount of tickets to the festival itself.
North Coast Music Festival will be announcing more after shows this week, but the initial after party line up is below.
