Three reasons to drop everything and rock and/or roll tonight at Crown Tap Room…

1. Chicago noise poppers Squish are celebrating the release of their first HoZac Hookup Klub 7″ tonight at Crown Tap. The ferocious four-piece whip out an impressive propulsive punk assault by shaping distressed guitar riffage and loud feedback into danceable, shoutable pop tunes with sharp as knives beats. After a two-week long guessing game, the lineup to the 2012 edition of Lollapalooza, now in it’s 21 year, has been revealed. And it’s an odd assortment of new, nostalgia and beyond nostalgia that will take over Grant Park this August 3 – 5.

Headliners include Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Black Keys, Jack White and Black Sabbath. The Chicago Tribune’s Greg Kot reports that C3 promises the full Sabbath lineup even though guitarist Tony Iommi is recovering from lymphoma and drummer Bill Ward isn’t fully signed on yet. Additionally, Kot writes that Swedish DJ Avicii and Justice make the leap to the headliner status and also close out the main stages.

Other notables include a newly reunited At The Drive-In, Florence + the Machine, Sigur Ros, The Afghan Whigs, Bloc Party, tUnE-yArDs, The Shins, M83, Die Antwoord and Childish Gambino.

Unfortunately, the lineup is short on are Chicago acts. The only local representation included is JC Brooks & the Uptown Sound, Empires, Kid Color and Orchard Lounge.

Check out the rest of the lineup after the jump.

Three reasons to shake it on over to Schubas this fine evening…

1. If there’s some weird area of space that exists somewhere between Fleetwood Mac and the Black Keys, then U.S Royalty seem to live in it. This DC indie rock outfit is quite flexible as they can do both airy and melodic west coast pop and dingy blues guitar rock with equal focus. LISTEN: “Equestrian”

OK Go eat your heart out. Chicago power poppers Archie Powell and the Exports have released another high-energy video to go with its equally rambunctious new jam “Crazy Pills,” off its upcoming third album Great Ideas in Action, due out May 1. The quartet slowly go berserk while locked away in a harshly-lit room, opting to glide across the floor and ride a coach down a hallway. You know, the usual. The tune is pretty infectious, filled with sweet poptastic hooks and bad-ass guitar solos. What more could you ask for? RJ Export shirtless? Well, it’s got that, too. Archie Powell and the Exports will celebrate their record release show at Subterranean on Friday, April 27. However, you can hear the whole thing before that at a listing party at Township on Thursday, April 26.

Brendan Losch is one sly guy.

The track “Someone Has Always Got Someone,” off his new album Low, opens a sweetly and deceivingly with it’s gentle melody picked over and again creating a serene, almost blissful mood. However, the lyrics that accompany the music are piercing and absolutely heartwrenching, overflowing with sadness.

Losch and backing vocalist Gia Margaret’s repetition of the line, “Don’t you want to be happy? I do, but nothing is free,” cuts fairly deep. “Someone Has Always Got Someone” reminds me of Canadian indie rockers Broken Social Scene due to the track’s sweeping orchestrals, while simple can be largely overwhelming, although in a good way. If you’re looking to get lost in melancholy, this is the song with which to do it.

Brendan Losch releases his third album Low today, April 10.

Three reasons to hop on over to the Burlington for a night of experimental happenings…

1. Philadelphia’s Son Step might both frighten and warm your soul with their experimental, lo-fi folk antics. Using a potpourri of electronics, delicate vocal loops and wild samples, this outfit isn’t afraid to get trippy. LISTEN: “Right Times”

2. It doesn’t get much dreamier than Shalloboi. These Chicagoans have a knack for building slow burning soundscapes that could easily soudntrack some kind of dramatic cinema sequences. One thing is for sure with Shalloboi – be patient as their music grows slowly, but the pay off is worth it. LISTEN: “Summer Blues”
