Three reasons to brave Wrigleyville during baseball season and see
the Maybenauts at
Cubby Bear…
1. Well, what can you say about
the Maybenauts that I haven’t already
said. It’s simple. Chicago quartet the Maybenauts will rock your socks off and have you dancing barefoot on what you hope is beer. Plus these girls can really belt it out.

It’s been said that everyone’s a critic, but admittedly there isn’t too much to criticize about the Earth Program’s debut album, “Invade!”

Three time-to-steer-you-back-to-guitars-heavy-heavy-guitars reasons to brave storm watch ’10 tonight and scurry on over to Ronny’s:
1. Chicago’s Death Valley, not to be confused with the one in California, cite Nirvana as an influence. But it has to be Bleach-era Nirvana because there is nothing slick in their sound. It’s more a late 80′s grunge influence, you know, before major labels started gobbling bands up. But Death Valley are more Fudge Tunnel with Sabbath riffs at the core drenched and buried in a sloppy mess of distortion than Soundgarden and their desire to still get laid. Fan-fucking-tastic is what this is.

Finally after teases all last week, the official Lollapalooza 2010 lineup has been released.
This year’s festival is an especially eclectic group of electro-dance pop, current indie-rock mainstays and some acts that are old enough to remember the festival’s original early-1990′s incarnation.
The heavily rumored headliners were indeed confirmed and include reunited grungers Soundgarden, eyeliner-punks Green Day, new-millennium-madonna Lady GaGa, epic indie-soul rockers Arcade Fire, New York garage revivalists The Strokes and French pop-machine Phoenix. Other notable acts include MGMT, Spoon, The Black Keys, Social Distortion, Devo, Cypress Hill, Girzzly Bear, Erykah Badu, Dirty Projectors, The xx and Mavis Staples.
Lollapalooza 2010 will once again grace Chicago’s Grant Park on August 6 – 8. Three day passes are on sale now for $215 at Lollapalooza.com.

Three say-isn’t-this-the-guy-telling-us-that-guitars-are-back reasons to pull out those ironic sunglasses with the neon temples (I had to look that up) one more time and shimmy on over to the Empty Bottle tonight…
1. I’m not against synthesized music, my friends. In fact, I’m all for the kind of lo-fi, bedroom pop that Brooklyn’s Small Black produce. It’s more East River Pipe than Passion Pit. Way more. Their keyboards serve to add to the intimacy rather than to get your ass on the dance floor.

Details are sketchy, but Chicago’s Bird Talk have been methodically working on a brand new EP.
In February, they all holed up in a cabin in Wisconsin to record the basic tracks. This is quite a departure from their first LP, No Bird Left Behind, which was mostly recorded live in one take. Besides the new studio trickery, the band has also taken to some instrument swapping to keep things fresh.
Their Facebook page has demos of “Virgins Vs. Babies” and “Crazy Mad” up now for your listening pleasure.
There’s no firm date for the release of the new EP, and although they’d prefer to release it as a 7″, the format is also still up in the air. Nevertheless, you will be hearing brand new music from the Bird Talk very soon, so keep your ears open.
