The Smashing Pumpkins‘ search for a new drummer is apparently over as it appears 19-year-old Mike Bryne of the Beaverton, Oregon based Moses, Smell the Roses has taken the throne. News of the replacement began trickling in last week via various Twitter and MySpace sources and was picked up by HipstersUnited.
The Pumpkins website addressed the rumors and confirmed that Byrne and frontman Billy Corgan have been working together:
SP.com (smashingpumpkins.com) can finally announce that Billy has been working with young (19) Mike Byrne on demos. Word from the studio is that Mike is an exceptionally talented and gifted drummer and things are going very well.
And that is that.

In exchange for a fixed resource base fans will be let inside in an unprecedented way to the creative process of preparing to make the next SP album while also inspiring an inter-active dialogue that will help shape the work. Because of the open window, further efforts will be made to provide content so that anyone participating can more readily follow the arc over the 12 weeks, with unprecedented access to lyrical and musical content.”
