Brooklyn outfit Liars played a vivacious set of abrasive, art rock tunes in their late afternoon set at Pitchfork Music Festival last Friday, July 16. They were the first act of the day to bring some noisy antics to the Festival after two singer-songwriters and a hip-hop group. One of the highlights of their performance was when they covered Bauhaus’ “In the Flat Field” from the 1980 album of the same name. We’ve got the sun soaked video for you to check it right here:
That’s all she wrote. After three days of sunshine, music and a lot of heat, the 2010 edition of the Pitchfork Music Festival is in the bag. We’ve brought you complete coverage throughout the weekend of Day One and Day Two. Here’s where I give my thoughts about Day Three, and where you begin the countdown to next year’s Pitchfork Fest…
Pitchfork Music Festival Day One is in the books. Below is a complete wrap up of all the day’s musical acts. Yesterday’s winners? I’d say Sharon Van Etten, Liars (Yes!) and Broken Social Scene. So sit back, relax and catch up on the Pitchfork Friday action. We’re doing it all again in less that 24 hours. Joy!
Tomorrow begins another Pitchfork Music Festival at Chicago’s Union Park. From Saturday’s LCD Soundsystem disco-punk dance party to Sunday night’s Pavement reunion, this one should be pretty freakin’ amazing. But of course you know all about those guys, and there’s so much more music to be seen before 8:30pm that we decided to focus on our favorite mid-tier acts, and perhaps through our clever turns of phrase, guide you in their direction as well. This is your Loud Loop Press Pitchfork Fest 2010 Preview.
We’ve kept you up-to-date on indie-psych outfit Netherfriends, brainchild of Chicagoan Shawn Rosenblatt, and their attempt to play in all 50 states. Well, we now have footage of this ambitious project. Here’s Netherfriends taking it to a house show in Richmond, VA, with his older material such as “Tac Tac” from 2008’s Feathers and Dots and “Mom Cop” and “Really” from 2009’s Calling You Out. Neverfriends’ newest release, Barry and Sherry, is currently available for download at Netherfriends.bandcamp.com. Be sure and catch Netherfriends at Pitchfork Music Festival 2010 on Saturday, July 17, on the (b)alance stage at 1:00 p.m.! Now check out the video:
This was a poorly timed release. Astro Coast, the debut album from Florida indie rock group Surfer Blood, was not suited for my headphones as I trudged through the Chicago snow last February. It’s best suited for now – when we’re nearing the dog days of summer and weekend trips to the beach are typical. Sure, I waited a few months until it warmed up to give it a proper spin, but I’m glad I did as the album is one of the flat out best guitar rock records released this year.
Pitchfork Music Festival 2010 is only a few days away. Can you feel the excitement? What’s that? You don’t have tickets? Fear not. If you have a computer, you can join in on the fun!
Pitchfork has announced that for the fourth year in a row, Optimus will be the festival’s official webcast production partner. A link to the webcast can be found on Pitchforkmusicfestival.com/media.php once the fest powers up.
The festivities kick off at 3 p.m. at the ToyShop on 4818 N. Magnolia Ave., between Lawrence and Argyle in Uptown. In addition to the music, free vegan food and snacks will be provided in a drug- and alcohol-free environment.
OBBITYFEST is an all ages event; the cover is a $5 suggested donation. With nine bands on the bill, that is a little over 50 cents per act. You can’t beat that value.
