While their approach might be minimal, Luggage creates a dense, moody atmosphere in their songs. The Chicago post-punk act’s 2016 debut, SUN, is reverb-heavy and carries space that can be both felt and heard. At times, they conjure up the same dark vibes that made the now-on-hiatus Disappears so damn good. That being said, I was taken aback when I got the final mix for their new, Loud Loop-exclusive single “Wine,” which trades some of the atmospherics for a tighter, more aggressive approach. And the result is rad as hell.
In episode nine of the Loud Loop Podcast, I chatted with Michael Vallera, Michael John Grant and Luca Cimarusti from Luggage about their songwriting process, learning from past projects and their Loud Loop-exclusive jam, “Wine,” which you can hear at the tail end of the podcast below. You can also download the track for free below or stream it in the Bandcamp sidebar to the right. Happy Listening!
