Earlier this week
Wilco announced it was breaking ties with Nonesuch and forming its own label dBpm Records with distribution handled by Anti- Records.
Their 2009 album Wilco (the Album) fulfilled the band’s contractual obligations and freed them to go elsewhere. Frontman Jeff Tweedy worked with the indie Anti- label when producing Mavis Staples 2010 release
You Are Not Alone. According to
Billboard.com Wilco Manger Tony Margherita will handle the new label’s operations out of Easthampton, Mass.
In the Billboard article, Tweedy stated:
"This is an idea we've discussed for years. We really like doing things ourselves, so having our own label feels pretty natural to me. And, to be working with Anti- -- a label that was started by a punk rock guy to sell his own records -- seems like a perfect fit for us."
