Before we get to the shows, a reminder that Loud Loop Radio will be back on the air tomorrow, Saturday, January 30, at 3 p.m. until 5 p.m. on Radio DePaul.

Lets get to it, shall we?

EARTH PROGRAM
One of our 10 Chicago Bands To Watch In 2010, Earth Program will celebrate their record release show for INVADE! in style with a killer show at Ronny’s tonight. If you’ve never heard of Earth Program, you’re missing out. Their sound is hard to classify as they play a unique brand of indie pop, post-punk and psychedelic surf rock with lots of reverb, revved-up guitar riffs and garage-y vocals. Also on the bill for the show are local acts Goody Bishop, man | DROID & AUDRIO. Check out the trailer for Earth Program’s new release titled INVADE! after the jump. (Richard Giraldi)

8:00 PM. Friday, 1/29. Ronny’s. 21+. $5.

THE NEW DEAL
Wanna shake your ass, bob your head and get all sweaty while dancing to the sickest live-electronica trio on the planet? Good. Then make it out to see The New Deal, three fine Canadians that rely heavily on improvisation in their high energy performances. An opening set from DJ Rekha mixing hip-hop with traditional Bhangra music of South Asia rounds out what will surely be a groove-heavy night. (Andrew Kahn)

9:00 p.m. Friday, January 29. Park West. 18+. $23.

PENTAGRAM
Is there a way to overstate the influence of the nearly 40 year history of Pentagram? Who knows. The revolving door of members and the fact that their debut came out nearly 15 years after forming make what should be the Stones to the Beatles Sabbath more of an odd footnote in the history of metal. But fear not, Pentagram will rock the Empty Bottle Saturday night. Despite it all Pentagram has put out some of the doomiest of doom metal. Opening is Indianapolis’s Gates Of Slumber who play an old school style of bare chested metal that 16 year old me used to eat up like pudding. (Ross Meyerson)

10:00 PM. Saturday, 1/30. The Empty Bottle. 21+ $20.

DUMPSTER BABIES
Cal’s Bar? Must admit I’d never heard but it seems that this little dive bar that could in the South Loop has been hosting live music since 1947. Well Saturday sees Chicago’s Dumpster Babies and their sweet garage pop harmonies hitting up Cal’s and bringing fellow Chicagoans CoCoComa with them. That’s a lot of dry sounding guitars strummed at lightning speed. (Ross Meyerson

10:00 PM. Saturday, 1/30. Cal’s Bar. 21+. $TBA.

GLAD CLOUD: AMBIENT MUSIC SERIES
Like your music to blend into your conversation? Check out The Whistler’s Glad Cloud: Ambient Music Series. This week Jonathan Krohn of the Chicago band Male will be setting the mood so to speak. Grab a friend, grab a drink, and let Mr. Krohn fill in the blanks you didn’t even know were there. (Ross Meyerson)

8:00 PM. Saturday, 1/30. The Whistler. 21+. FREE!
