PYSCH FEST
I mentioned Chicago’s oozing psych scene in my Sadhu Sadhu review and Friday night’s Psych Fest at the Hideout is your chance to hear it all for yourself. The Chicago Metaphysical Circus has put together a line-up of Chicago’s best and brightest

…including the aforementioned Sadhu Sadhu plus Black Wyrm Seed, The Great Society Mind Destroyers, Vee Dee, Plastic Crimewave Sound, and Dark Fog. Dude, it’ll blow your mind, man. – Ross Meyerson

8:00 PM. Friday, 1/22. The Hideout. 21+. $10.

TIM KINSELLA
What is Tim Kinsella up to? Celebrating his far reaching musically history it seems. Friday brings him to the Empty Bottle to curate “The Joan of Arc Don’t Mind Control Variety Show” featuring a ton of local artists. According to the Bottle’s site, tonight “is a celebration of musical friendships and partnerships in the Chicago indie music scene that have changed and flourished over the last fifteen years.” Sounds good to me especially with Pillars and Tongues, Disappears, and A Tundra on the bill amongst many others. – Ross Meyerson

10:00 PM. Friday, 1/22. The Empty Bottle. 21+. $10.

BRIGHTON, MA
Don’t let the name fool you, this local rock quintet has been putting on stellar performances around the Midwest since 2005. Last February they took up residence at Schubas, where they return tonight along with Elsinore and Flight and tomorrow with Andrew Belle and Tacoma Narrows. They made 6 tracks from their residency available for free download so check ‘em out before you head out. – Andrew Kahn

10:00 PM. Friday, 1/22. Schubas. 21+18+. $10
10:00 PM. Saturday, 1/23. Schubas. 21+18+. $10

MUDQUEENS
Normally when one entices someone with the promise of mud wrestling it’s for the fellas. When it’s the Mudqueens of Chicago, I get the feeling it’s just as lady friendly, if you catch my drift. Saturday at the Viaduct Theatre the Mudqueens hit the mud and they are bringing along friends of the site Bird Talk. Oh, and the Pain-Kurst Girls will be there as well, eating fire and other things that I’m sure makes their parents proud It promises to be a total mess. Maybe wear something you don’t give a shit about. – Ross Meyerson

8:00 PM. Saturday, 1/23. Viaduct Theatre. $15.

PREFUSE 73
If you didn’t get a chance to catch Prefuse 73’s opening set on New Year’s Eve before Umphrey’s McGee at the Aragon Ballroom, fear not – the Empty Bottle is giving you another shot on Sunday night. Always on the cutting edge of electronic sounds Guillermo Scott Herren will lay down his unique blend of hip-hop and techno with opening sets by Gaslamp Killer and Voices Voices. – Andrew Kahn

9:30 PM Sunday, 1/24. The Empty Bottle. 21+. $15
