Chapel Hill’s Polvo, probably the finest art, rock, prog and middle eastern tinged indie rock band of the 90′s, fully reunited, play the Bottom Lounge Saturday night. Merge is set to release their new record, In Prisms on the September 8, so there’s about a 100% chance you’ll be hearing 2009 Polvo mixed in with the classics. If you’re unfamiliar with the open ended power of 90′s style indie rock get yourself to the Bottom Lounge for a little history lesson.
9:00 PM. Saturday, 9/5. Bottom Lounge. $15.
Dead Meadow bring their shoegazing psychedelic doom folk to the Empty Bottle this Saturday. Lose yourself in a haze of fuzzy guitars and droney freak outs. Chicago’s experimental, big beat, gospel band (their words), Follows opens. Doors at 10pm.
10:00 PM. Saturday, 9/5. Empty Bottle. $12.
Those of you monetarily challenged or just into some free entertainment Austin’s Woven Bones play a free in store at Permanent Records on Sunday evening. Permanent knows good garage and Woven Bones sound like another in a fine line of lo-fi dirty rock n roll.
6:00 PM. Saturday, 9/6. Permanent Records. FREE!.
