Post-Pitchfork weekend blues? We got you covered….
The Wrens, last seen in 2003 on Absolutely Kosher Records are playing 2 nights at Schubas. According to Schubas’ web site, both nights are sold out. I guess being long lost has its benefits. If you can find tickets, Friday’s show is 18+ and, if you’re looking for a more adult evening, Saturday is 21+. – Ross Meyerson
10:30 PM. Friday, 7/24 & Saturday, 7/26. Schubas. $15.
Read our review for Akron/Family’s newest album, Set ‘Em Wild, Set ‘Em Free here. Icy Demons open.
8:00 PM. Friday 7/24. Bottom Lounge. $18.
Fresh off of their late morning/early afternoon Pitchfork set, Chicago’s Disappears (composed of members of Sonic Youth worshippers The Ponys and local legends 90 Day Men) play the Empty Bottle on Saturday, July 25. Disappears play guitar heavy, reverb infused rock the way it used to be played when indie rock was consumed by the Velvet Underground influence. Check the out opening for Obits, another in what feels like the never ending parade of Brooklyn based bands. – Ross Meyerson
10:00 PM. Saturday 7/25. Empty Bottle. $10.
Featuring the sweet tunes of Smoking Popes, Big Sam’s Funky Nation (New Orleans shout out!), The New Deal and Grand Duchy.
NOON – 10:00 PM. Saturday, 7/25 & Sunday, 7/26. N. Milwaukee Ave. between W. North Ave. and N. Wood. $5 Donation.
