umbowl_static22Just two days after announcing the UMBowl 2010 (April 24, at Lincoln Hall) with details about the first of four quarters of a “full contact musical experience” the group has provided information on what to expect for the second quarter.

UPDATE: Tickets, handsomely priced at $99 a piece, go on sale today via Lincoln Hall Ticketing at noon central time. Check out this postfor information on the first half of music the band has planned.

UM announced details for the second half, as well as special merchandise and travel packages. For the third quarter ballots will be distributed to ticket purchasers who will be able to not only vote on what songs they want to hear the band play but also the style it is played in. Quarter four involves being able to text the band instructions on what and how to play in real-time as they perform.

Beyond the regularly priced $99 tickets, there’s also a $175 ticket package option that includes a personalized jersey complete with name and number of one’s choosing and download of the show.

For those coming from out of town or the suburbs, CID Entertainment set up a travel package that includes lodging and the specialized jerseys.

The band also set up a survey for fans to select their favorite UM shows from each of the past six years to be inducted into the UMBowl 2010 Hall of Fame.  The six that get the most votes will be compiled into a “six-pack” limited edition CD pressing that will be numbered and signed by the band.

As for the second quarter, the band describes it like this:

With a nod to the texting aspect of our successful Stew Art Series (S2), we now present the Second Quarter, Q2. Q2 will be entirely improvised and driven by bi-directional text communication. The band will huddle and come up with a category which will be texted to Umphrey’s own Offensive Coordinator Kevin Browning. He will put the category up on the scoreboard and the audience will be challenged to text their ideas for musical themes based specifically on that category. Kevin and his team will then sort and post chosen texts to the scoreboard for the band to use in constructing their improvs and planning their “plays.” As the improv progresses and the huddles continue, Kevin will update the scoreboard with new categories to keep the band marching down the field. Expect handoffs of musical ideas as the jams progress, deep grooves as the band find themselves in 3rd and long situations, audibles as new ideas arise at the line of scrimmage, and sacks as the band gets hit with challenging ideas. Can Umphrey’s keep Q2 turnover free?

Stay tuned for more information as it comes available, including when and where to get tickets and just how much of a dent this event is going to put in your savings.
