Although I’m fairly certain most everybody sees the Smashing Pumpkins more as Corgans-novelty act than serious rock band these days, as a Chicago group, it’s our duty to report on them. (sigh)

You can hear this new Smashing Pumpkins track, titled “A Stitch In Time”, right now on SmashingPumpkins.com. The track has a bit of an Iron Butterfly “In Da Gadda Da Vida”-1960′s psychedelic feel to it. Mysteriously absent is drummer Mike Byrne and any drums at all.

For those of you keeping count – all four of you – this new, new two-piece version of the Smashing Pumpkins featuring Billy Corgan and 19 year-old drummer Mike Byrne have released a whopping three songs off their supposed 44-song online-release-only epic Teargarden by Kaleidyscope.

Originally, the songs were supposed to be released one at a time per month starting in late October. Obviously, Billy’s a bit behind, which is understandable given that he’s been busy working with Jessica Simpson.

But if you’re one of the few who takes this stuff seriously, and I commend you if you do (seriously), then good news! Details have been release on the physical EPs that will make up the massive collection of songs that is Teargarden by Kaleidyscope. According to Insound.com, the first volume, titled Songs for a Sailor, will feature both CD’s and a 7″, be packaged in a silk-screened wooden box, contain a new song and bonus instrumentals for each track and cost $29.99. Whoo.

How do you feel about the new track? Or the Pumpkins in general? Feel free to vent in the comments.
