Chicago’s annual punk (and occasionally metal) gathering Riot Fest looks to be expanding it’s national presence as well as it’s local one.
According to a Western Publicity press release sent out this morning, Riot Fest founder Michael Petryshyn is partnering with wing-giving, energy drink Red Bull ahead of a plan for a major expansion in the future, which hopes to bring festivals in the spirit of the flagship programming in Chicago to New York and Los Angeles.
This isn’t the first time a Riot Fest expansion has been planned. Riot Fest West, an extension set for Los Angeles last year, was scrapped due to Petryshyn’s personal health issues.
Additionally, the press release announced that Petryshyn, who’s also managing partner of Riot Fest Music Co., will become the new Head Talent Buyer for General Market and Rock at Chicago’s Congress Theatre. Congress Theatre has been a Riot Fest venue for years, and Petryshyn has big plans for its future.
A quote from Petryshyn per the Western Publicity press release:
“Because of the growth of Riot Fest, I’ve been offered talent buying jobs recently in other markets; however, it meant that I would have to give up Riot Fest, which I would never do because of the expansion we’re looking at in the next several years. I prefer to stay independent, and when Eddie (Carranza) approached me about the position and stated that I have their full support, it was an offer I was waiting to hear for the past several years. With that said I’m excited about helping make the Congress Theater one of the premier and most respected venues in the Midwest.”
Riot Fest is celebrating its fifth anniversary this year. Tickets are going fast, so be sure to check out the full lineup and get’em while you can.
