David Grubbs of Gastr del Sol
A new documentary titled “Parallax Sounds” intends to explore the relationship between Chicago’s architecture and the music created here.
Director Augusto Contento interviewed several musicians – who are based in Chicago or at one time were – including famed producer and musician Steve Albini, Battles frontman Ian Williams, Gastr del Sol composer David Grubbs, singer Azita Youssefi, Eternals vocalist Damon Locks, and jazz composer Ken Vandermark. Albini, Grubbs and Vandermark have also contributed to the film’s soundtrack.
The documentary is currently $10,000 away from being completed. Those who are interested in aiding the filmmakers can donate at the movie’s Kickstarter page. Incentives for giving include Facebook Thank You’s ($5), signed Parallax Sounds posters ($25), tickets to the film’s premiere ($2,000) and even executive producer credits on the finished product ($5,000+).
If Kickstarter campaigns aren’t your thing, a fundraiser will be held at The Hideout on Wednesday, July 27. Tickets are $20 and the event will feature a DJ set by Damon Locks, free food and drink, and a 20-minute preview of the film.
Check out the film’s trailer below.
