jay_bennett5Billboard.com is reporting that Champaign County Coroner Duane Northrup determined musician Jay Bennett died as the result of an overdose on pain medication.

The 45-year-old Ex-Wilco member had traces of fentanyl in his system. The drug is commonly used to treat ongoing pain.

Bennett was schedule to have hip replacement surgery in the coming months prior to his death on May 24 in Urbana.
