Several Chicago rockers are banding together at Lincoln Hall on Thursday, Sept. 1, to raise money for Girls Rock! Chicago.

Mike Kinsella, of such revered emo groups Cap’n Jazz, Joan of Arc and Owen – just to name a few, will join Braid frontman Bob Nanna, Fall Out Boy’s Joe Trohman, Spitalfield’s Mark Rose, The Felix Culpa’s Dustin Currier and Weekend Nachos’ Drew Brown on stage to perform as 80s pop legends The Cure.

This isn’t the first time Kinsella has assembled friends to cover a uber-popular 80s artist for a Girls Rock! Chicago benefit. Kinsella and friends performed as Morrissey in 2009 at Wicker Park venue Subterranean.

Punk rock choir Blue Ribbon Glee Club, known for a cappella versions of songs by Dead Kennedys, Black Lips and others, will also appear at the benefit show. Tickets for the all ages show are $12 in advance and $15 at the door.

The money raised through this special one-off appearance at Lincoln Hall will go toward scholarships for young lady rockers.

Girls Rock! Chicago is a non-profit that strives to promote positive self-esteem in young girls aged 8-16 by fostering creative expression through rock music. The organization holds three rock camps every summer geared toward young girls and grown women.
