Three-oh-my-gosh-it’s-like-Valentines-day-and-I-have-permission-for-to-highlight-two-shows-because-it’s-all-about-couples-today reasons to leave that darn scarf at home and head to the Bottle or the Whistler tonight…
1. Let’s start at the Empty Bottle. This White Mystery sounds interesting. Have you heard of this “garage” as a form of music? It’s crazy. I mean, a garage is where your car goes but apparently it means something musically as well. I’ve heard the White Mystery and they are great. I predict big things. Oh, they also have a new album coming out soon? Didn’t they just release one like a few months ago? So many questions. Get your tushies out tonight and maybe a few will be answered.
2. Also on this bill is Dark Fog who sound nothing like White Mystery. But this is no Elbo Room throw bands at a dart board and call it a line-up type thing. No, Dark Fog might explore, well, darker territory but both bands share a kinship for music not necessarily rooted in the here and now. Be it psychedelic jams or garage rock anthems, you’ll find something to dig tonight I am certain.
3. Or….maybe you want your Valentines day night to be a little sadder, albeit wrapped in quirky pop tunes. Then Sad Brad Smith is your man and the Whistler is your place. Who says heartbreak has to sound heartbroken? Not I. The poppiest of pop can still be the saddest of sad. Mr. Smith proves this beyond a shadow of a doubt. Not convinced? Perhaps you should re-read Audrey’s review of his latest. I’ll wait.
