Three Monday-Tuesday-who-can-tell-the-difference-these-days reasons to, just for the heck of it, hit up Schubas tonight…
1. Because it’s going to get weird, that’s why. Oh, you never asked why? Well, that’s how weird it is going to get, see. Denver’s Woodsman call themselves post-psychedelic. I can dig, I guess. What they do is to slowly build layer upon layer of sounds from guitars to loops over dual percussionists until your head is swirling. Not sure where the “post” comes in, but none the less this shit is groovy and weird so labels be damned.
2. San Diego’s Tape Deck Mountain are no less weird. Perhaps more traditional in approach but only because Woodsman are hardly traditional. Still, Tape Deck Mountain sound like Sonic Youth at their most frightening. This music will not sooth your soul, friends. It’s cold and chilling and you’re going to love it.
3. Then there’s Dinosaur Feathers who will give folks the wrong impression by opening the show with some darn great quirky pop music. I mean, folks will be bobbing their heads and tapping their toes and then the next two bands will freak them the fuck out. Devious, Schubas. Quite.
8:00 p.m. Tuesday, 6/14. Schubas. 18+. $8 advanced/$10 at the door.
