And now three reasons to pop on over to the Beat Kitchen this evening…
1. Chicago’s Unicycle Loves You have a solid garage-pop foundation, but their 2010 LP, Mirror, Mirror, found them dabbling in electronics and ’80s new wave. Just recently, however, the group released a new track, “Sun Comes Out (And I Don’t Care),” from their upcoming 2011 release, Failure. The song features a lo-fi organ melodies and a bonafide guitar boogie and is a promising taste of what’s to come.
2. Toronto’s Dinosaur Bones have an edgy pop thing going on – like early Radiohead meets Phantom Planet. But to clarify, Dinosaur Bones don’t sound derivative. No, it’s rather intriguing when their songs open up into moody instrumental jams and offer crisp, warm guitar-driven melodies.
3. If in the mood for something a little more atmospheric? Locals Rainbo Video will delight with their synth-heavy soundcapes. And Chicago’s Percolator will open up with their rambunctious indie rock attack and dirty guitar leads that would make Albert Hammond, Jr. do a double take.
8:00 p.m. Monday, 10/10. Beat Kitchen. 21+. $8.
