Toupée are unsettling. In a good way. Their songs are built upon disjointed foundations and seething tension. "Lullaby," the opening track from their self-titled
Teen River cassette, moves on a wave of reverb and guitar static. The band can also do fast and jagged as heard on "Shocka Con," which rushes at a punk speed with an occasional busts of anxious screams. Still, it's quite nice when Toupée manages to intersect at a melodic medium like on "Bad Guy," a track that rolls furious growls and and uncooked riffs.
