Three reasons to head to either Schubas or Lincoln Hall tonight to catch the opening day of Tomorrow Never Knows 2010, the only Chicago music festival ballsy enough to take place right in the middle of January. But it’s all indoors, so you have no reason not to go…
1. It’s a pleasant 34 degree outside. In Chicago. In January. That’s hilarious. Even funnier? The number of stand up comics who will hit Schubas tonight for Laugh It Up, Kid as part of the Tomorrow Never Knows Festival. Hitting the stage tonight will be Prescott Tolk formerly of Comedy Central’s Premium Blend, Cameron Esposito, James Fritz and many, many more hilarious comedians.
2. If comedy isn’t your thing, head over Lincoln Hall to catch British indie-punk outift, The Cribs. With the addition of the Johnny Marr (The Smiths, Modest Mouse), their new album Ignore The Ignorant blends melodic, jangly guitars and steady-punk rhythms. This WXRT presented show also features Adam Green, The Dead Trees and DJ sets from Chicago’s own Mother Hubbard.
3. While most of the shows for this week’s TNK festival are sold out. You can still buy a five-day pass to either Schubas for $75 or Lincoln Hall for $50. Considering most shows are between $10 -- $20 for individual shows, it’s a great deal.
Laugh It Up, Kid: 9:00 PM, Wednesday, 1/13. Schubas. 18+. $5.
The Cribs: 9:00 PM, Wednesday, 1/13. Lincoln Park. 18+. $15.
