Three it’s-too-hot-to-be-outside-wouldn’t-you-rather-be-in-a-bar reasons to get to the Beauty Bar tonight..
1. The Rumble is back shining the spotlight on some of Chicago’s best up-and-comers, and it looks like the Beauty Bar will be their home for a while. Tonight, it’s Magic Keys. While the name may be unfamiliar to you, perhaps you’d know them better from their old alias – Aleks & The Drummer. This duo brings keyboard-and-drums to a whole new level. You’ve got spooky keys, hard hitting drums and Aleka Eva’s gypsy croon. It all makes for highly enticing cabaret-pop.
2. If Panda Riot was a TV show, Architecture would be the spin-off. The dream-pop outfit features Panda Rioter Rebecca Scott, but the music is has more of an electronic foundation. As Scott and bandmate Melissa Harris admitted in our interview with them, the drum parts are written live then they, “re-create/re-imagine them electronically.” It’s that kind of creatively sensibility that makes Architecture’s lush, melancholy lullabies such a captivating listen. Oh, and be sure to read our review of their debut EP here.
3. Finally, there’s Safeword. What is are Safeword? Well, it’s the side-project of Mahj Hunter Husar of MAHJONGG. Pretty much, Husar gets to do whatever he wants creatively, and you love MAHJONGG, so yeah, it’ll be super rad no doubt.
9:00 p.m. Wednesday, 7/20. Beauty Bar. 21+. FREE! (RSVP at Eventbrite.com)
