Three stop-using-that-dry-shampoo-and-introduce-your hair-to-soap-and-water reasons to come out to Beat Kitchen tonight…

1. Any band that describes itself as “a cross between a hot dog and a Replacements melody” is A-OK in my book. And it’s true, vocally, there’s a hint of Replacements mixed with some moderately paced folk and maybe even some Pavement-esque quirk in The Canoes‘ lyrics. The end result is pretty damn palatable. To celebrate The Canoes’ new album Roger the Chicago quintet will hand out free copies to those in attendance. Don’t you love a band that pays you?

2. Chicago trio Hospital Garden are no strangers to Loud Loop Press. We’ve given the band’s Dinosaur Jr meets Pavement meets R.E.M. brand of fuzzy, alternative rock plenty of accolades in the past and we probably won’t stop now. The last time we encountered Hospital Garden at the Empty Bottle, the rockers unveiled some new tunes, so here’s hoping they keep breaking them out until a new album drops.

3. Spacey folk rockers Brother George aim to impress audiences with its sweet vocal harmonies and jangly 60s pop outlook. It’s hard not to feel like you’ve taken a spin in Doctor Who’s TARDIS (yeah, I went there) and landed in a whole new decade. Openers House Sounds play swinging, distorted indie rock that probably pairs nicely with a lager or two.
