And now three reasons to pull that damn burrito out of your pants and hop on over to Lincoln Hall tonight…
1. By day, John Stirratt and Patrick Sansone are members of Chicago’s very own, very beloved and very awesome Wilco, but by night they’re…Well, actually, they’re The Autumn Defense regardless of the sun’s position. Former Loud Loop writer and all around good person Jason Shough had plenty of nice things to say about the band’s latest record, Once Around, back in November. And it’s all very true. While occasionally drawing inspiration from their primary band, Stirratt and Sansone mostly focus on sweet, ’70s FM radio melodies that teeter on the fence of power pop and folk-laden rock ‘n’ roll. It’s feel good music without the bubble gum wrapper and more guitars.
2. Just about everything that encompasses the pop spectrum, Liam Hayes and Plush pull off without hesitation. From ’60s soul to blues to acoustic balladry, the band does it all. But it’s not just the fact that Liam Hayes and Plush can pull off those sounds, it’s that they do so with a confident and nearly arena-ready swagger.
3. Opening tonight’s show is Dorian Taj, who offers an old-school indie rock approach with some power-pop leanings. Hell, at times Dorian Taj sounds almost Ween-ish. In the end, though, It’s warm and familiar like the old blanket you no doubt snuggled up with on Labor Day morning.
8:00 p.m. Wednesday, 9/7. Lincoln Hall. 21+ $14.
