Talk Normal

Three they-keep-predicting-days-and-days-of-rain-and-it-keeps-on-not-raining reasons to shine those shoes and head over to the Empty Bottle tonight…

1. It’s Monday. It’s free. You like at least one of those things. Brooklyn’s Talk Normal aim to make your Monday night better especially if you like some minimalistic jazzy discordant noise. Art rock? Sure, why not, we can call it that. It’s creepy and pretty much does as it pleases.

2. Also hailing from Brooklyn is Noveller, the one woman brainchild of Sarah Lipstate. Her latest, Glacial Glow, is a pretty mellow affair that would be well-suited for slow drives in the country or lying on your back contemplating that cloud that looks like Popeye. Wait, now it looks like Snoopy.

3. Mississippi’s U.S. Girls have a rather vague name. Or perhaps a rather grand one. Much like the girls of these United States, U.S. Girls are not easy to pin down (poor word choices my own). Sometimes noisy and brash, sometimes drone-y, and sometimes like Joan Jett singing through a broken mic, U.S. Girls are something all right. The fact that their Myspace page has a picture of the girl from the grossly underrated suburban dystopian flick “Over The Edge” (no, not “Over The Top,” you fool) is certainly a feather in their cap.

9:30 p.m. Monday, 6/20. Empty Bottle. 21+. FREE.
