Three I-know-the-football-season-kicks-off-tonight-but-what-I’m-about-to-share-is-of-utmost-importance reasons to get to the Logan Square Auditorium this, yes this, night…

1. Sleep! The mighty Sleep! The summer of metal turns into the fall of metal (I hope) as a reunited Sleep are touring and tonight bring their mighty, slow, repetitive riffage to the Logan Square Auditorium, and it’s high school prom atmosphere. I think the sound there sucks, but might actually work in its favor this time by allowing the riffs to just bounce around one’s head before the next one arrives. Did I mention they are playing the whole of Holy Mountain? It’s not quite as audacious as playing Dopesmoker, but it is still plenty rad. Life for this aging metalhead has been pretty good lately. Pretty good indeed.

2. You need two more reasons? Hows about Chicago’s Lichens, the brainchild of 90 Day Men’s Robert Lowe? That dude always has tricks up his sleeves. Also hailing from our city is opener GA’AN, and they are like trippy ass new age. It should be weird before Sleep hits the stage, and then heavy as fuck. Why are you even still reading this? Sleep!

3. I don’t care! You’re getting a video because Sleep videos are like Bigfoot sightings. Dragonaught!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

7:00 p.m. Thursday, 9/9. Logan Square Auditorium. All Ages. $25 advanced/$30 Door.
