seafarer

Three I-hate-to-see-you-leave-but-I-love-to-watch-you-go reasons to skip on down to the Empty Bottle tonight…

1. I hate farewells; they’re so final. But, alas, tonight we must say goodbye to Chicago quartet Seafarer. The group quickly became known for its endearing approach to indie rock with just enough folk not to be annoying and a decent blend of both crunch and melody that lands somewhere between angsty Pavement and country-fried Pavement. Seafarer, we hardly knew ye.

2. Chicago’s The Canoes are thoroughly Midwestern. From their jangly, indie rock guitar twang to the song titles on their debut album Roger (“We’ll Meet in Minnesota,” “Great Lake Mistakes”), the group embraces its roots while paying homage to bands like Dinosaur Jr and the R.E.M. and The Replacements.

3. Openers Males and Females might seem a bit familiar. If they do, it’s because Chaperone frontman Shaun Paul, singer-songwriter Dylan Kloska have united with Zak Kloska and The Slowhawks’ Frank E Dank to play some super fuzzed out rock jams with just a hint of ambient grooves. Also on hand tonight are surf-tastic garage rock trio House Sounds.

9:00 p.m. Tuesday, 9/6. Empty Bottle. 21+ Free w/ RSVP / $8 at door.
