Royal Baths

Three reasons to celebrate the President’s Day in style at the Empty Bottle tonight…

1. Brooklyn’s Royal Baths inject a bit of the metallic blues into Velvet Underground-esque art rock resulting in a sound that’s as hip as it is dark. But I’m not just talking about the tinny reverb engulfing their guitars, but lead singer Jeremy Cox’s deadpan vocal delivery that nears Thurston Moore territory. LISTEN: “Darling Divine”

2. Lansing, MI’s The People’s Temple are also set to unleash some heady psych-rock this evening, but theirs isn’t too other wordly as it’s anchored by some surfy guitar and some sixties pop dynamics. Perfect stuff for shaking and a groovin’ or freeing your mind. Oh, and check out their latest LP, Sons of Stone, which was released on Chicago’s own HoZac Records. LISTEN: “Jim Jones”

3. The only locals on tonight’s bill, Absolutely Not offer up a hyperactive take on glammy, punky rock. Their songs rush by in a blaze of rapid-fire rhythms, warbling synths and rowdy riffs. LISTEN: “Invention”
