PoundCakeThree no jacket needed reasons to head on over to the Empty Bottle tonight…

1. Though their name doesn’t imply it, PoundCake is really heavy. This local progressive-rock outfit started out as three drummers simply playing some covers for cash. Well, it’s apparent they picked up other instruments rather quickly because they offer some pretty complex riffage and intriguing time signatures. Though they have plenty of originals now, they haven’t completely abandoned the cover tunes game. Check out their sweet takes on Tom Petty’s “You Wreck Me” and the Flaming Lips’ “Bad Days” at their Myspace page.

2. Also on the bill tonight, all the way from France, are dirty indie rock trio Papier Tigre. Their music has a very raw and rough around the edges feel to it, which at some points could even be described as garage-pop but in a good way. After tonight’s gig, the band is heading down to SXSW to play about a billion showcases. Check out this video of Papier Tigre performing “Health and Insurance”:

3. Another band from France?!?! Yep. All the way from Reims is The Bewitched Hands On the Top of Our Heads, and this will be their first ever gig in the United States! Welcome, boys! This psych-pop outfit, currently signed to Savoir Faire, reach soaring heights in their climatic tunes that recall MGMT and Arcade Fire. Once again, this is their send off before scootin’ on down to Austin for some shenanigans.

9:30 p.m. Tuesday, 3/16. The Empty Bottle. 21+. $5.
