Paper Mice
1. It’s Monday. Thanks to the good folks at the Empty Bottle that doesn’t have to have the generic negativity Monday usually conjures up. For no money down, you can see Chicago’s own Paper Mice and their bass forward post-rock. I want to call them an unholy alliance of Mission Of Burma and Primus, but I feel invoking Primus is taboo these days. But…
2. Wisconsin’s Laarks debut, Exaltation of Laarks, was released on the super rad Absolutely Kosher Records in 2009, and that’s almost good enough for me. Their well thought out indie will probably remind you of Death Cab For Cutie and the like. What you’ll get is tons of pop all dressed up and ready for your bobbing head. There’s nothing wrong with that now is there?
3. Back to the Chicago scene, Unmanned Ships play a scuzzed out brand out of instrumental fuzz. I purposefully used scuzz and fuzz because it truly sounds like they layer their fuzz with extra scuzz. I choose my words with utmost specificity. There might some stoner rock buried beneath that scuzzy fuzz or hints of Capricorns like sea obsessed post-metal. It’s all a big scuzzy fuzz mystery that perhaps will be solved tonight in person.
9:30 p.m. Monday, 8/16. Empty Bottle. 21+. FREE!!!
