Oh No Oh My | Photo By Cory Ryan
Three cane-toads-the-cane-toads-are-coming reasons to tuck in your shirt one more and head to the Empty Bottle again tonight…
1. Hey, we don’t necessarily want to highlight the same venue two nights in a row but, you know, venues need to step it up on Tuesdays from time to time. In Lincoln Hall’s defense they stepped it up so much as to actually take themselves out of the running (telling y’all to go to a sold out show seems silly, right?). So, let’s talk Austin’s Oh No Oh My! You like dreamy pop? Oh No Oh My! write dreamy pop with an emphasis on the pop. If the Flaming Lips and Grandaddy wanted to make your head bob they might just tell you to listen to some Oh No Oh My! because the Flaming Lips don’t and Grandaddy broke up years ago.
2. New York’s The Dig give me ample opportunity for bad (“you’ll dig The Dig”) writer laziness. I mean, I use dig in my everyday vocabulary anyway. However, I don’t take the easy way out. The Dig have a sound that is about to hit the big time. It’s not a bad thing. Quite dreamy in their own right, these guys touch on Bends-era Radiohead ballads and funky little, we’ll call them, rockers. It’s all wrapped up and ready to go.
3. Hailing from Chicago and weighing in at 423 pounds: When Clouds Attack — which I believe is called fog. A little post-rock instrumental and a little electronic ambient, When Clouds Attack do not shy away from the dramatic. Their songs take many shapes within without ever overstaying their welcome, never an easy accomplishment. See, the Bottle just refused to be ignored. If you’ve got tickets for Tame Impala… by all means go. If you’re looking for something you can still get into then this one has my not very important stamp of approval.
9:00 p.m. Tuesday, 5/3. Empty Bottle. 21+. $8.
