Three spring-winter-spring-winter-it-must-be-March reasons to dress warm or maybe not but bring an umbrella or that might be silly but no matter what hit up the Empty Bottle tonight…

1. As reported by our crack reporting-like team, the Bottle is unleashing a new series of monthly free concerts under the name “Music. Friendly. Dancing”. See, it’s for you the customers. The Bottle appreciates you, and, despite their many already free Monday night shows, the good folks there thought they’d up the ante as a way of saying thanks. How so? Welp, look at the first installment’s headliner…

2. Portland’s Menomena! Well, kind of Memomena 2.0 as founding member Brent Knopf left earlier this year. Losing a member of a three-piece is rough, so what the future holds is up in the air. That said, Paul Alcott has joined the band and they’ve been touring so clearly time marches on. For no money down, check out if there’s a huge void, a new creative path, or maybe just a seamless transition.

3. Chicago’s Absolutely Not open. It’s the Bottle, so of course they tap local talent to open. This all caps status update from their Myspace kind of says it all, “WE’RE OPENING FOR FUCKING MENOMENA (GRAMMY NOMINEES) ON MONDAY. BE THERE!” That all caps enthusiasm can also be found in their garage-y indie songs that drive along on fuzzy guitars and at times even fuzzier vocals. Throw in some carnival like keyboards and you’ve got indie rock, with a capital ‘R’.

7:00 p.m. Monday, 3/7. Empty Bottle. 21+. FREE w/RSVP.
