MEAH!
1. Chicago’s MEAH! create quite a cacophony with their psychedelic, art-rock infused folk pieces. You can definitely hear in songs such as “P Control” from their Myspace page. It opens with some random guitar strumming under soft spoken vocals into shifting practically on a dime into an overdriven octane riff until turning into a rhythmic groover near the end. The live version of the track should surely bring the ruckus, and you can find out tonight.
2. Also on tonight’s bill, Maribelle keep things a bit on the mellow end of the spectrum with a acoustic indie rock. Lead singer Aaron Ross’ rich croon commands the songs, and his voice is so warm, some of their tracks, such as “So You’ve Found With Friends Dull As Old”, could double as a lulla bye. But that’s no slight as the songs guitars angelically hum and moves so slow, it’s practically whimsical.
3. Finally, opening tonight’s show is Wishgift, who by judging from their Myspace, are the heaviest band on the bill. They serve up some extremely energetic, rough-around-the-edges pop-metal, or would it me metal-tinged pop? Either way, Wishgift’s music calls for the devil horns in the air.
9:30 p.m. Tuesday, 9/7. Empty Bottle. 21+. $8.
