Maserati

Three you-know-fedoras-have-jumped-the-shark-when-Walgreens-sells-them-next-to-the-I-Heart-Chicago-shirts reasons to delete those photos and head over to the Empty Bottle tonight…

1. So, it’s not free. But it is Maserati straight from Athens, GA. As far as bands named after a sports car that play krautrock-meets-post-rock, these guys are right up there with Trans Am. The tragic loss of drummer Jerry Fuchs in 2009 slowed but did not stop the band as evidenced by their latest, Pyramid Of The Sun. If you dig some hard hitting motorik grooves, you can’t do much better than Maserati.

2. Following the Maserati up from Georgia are fellow Athenians Twin Tigers. Grooves must be a dime a dozen down there because these guys find time to lock in before throwing in some psychedelic freak outs. The Empty Bottle calls them shoegaze psychopop and I don’t think I’m in any position to argue this. Whatever you wanna call it your ears will thank you.

3. As for some local flavor we offer up Chicago’s Brontosaurus. You know I love a two-piece and this two piecer is no exception. Cherry picking from what seems like an infinite number of influences, Nicholas Kelley and Nicholas Papaleo create songs that are heavy, weird, pretty, and whatever else you can think. Looks like mid-June is when their debut full-length will hit the streets so go check them out now for a preview of what’s to come.

9:30 p.m. Monday, 4/25. Empty Bottle. 21+. $8 advanced/ $10 at the door.
